About June 2021 GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level
The written phase of different examinations managed by the Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Board unfolded hitch-free. This occurred in accommodation Centers selected by the Board across the country from June to July 2021.
The standards of this exam remained intact nationwide, this continues with the marking of scripts currently ongoing at the various marking centers.
The exams took place in respect of COVID-19 barrier measures and candidates who successfully made it can now jubilate.
A total of 170,483 candidates took part in the written stage of the GCE exams which unfolded in the following GCE exam centers;
- 336 GCE General Examination
- 97 Technical Vocational Education Examination

Candidate statistics GCE Results 2021
Compared to the 154,149 candidates who were registered for the exams in 2020, this year’s session witnessed a considerable increase of 16,334 candidates.
At the GCE Advanced Level, 13, 263 candidates sat in with an increase of 2,254 candidates compared to last year.
According to official figures, 93,643 candidates sat in for the 2021 GCE Ordinary Level session while 55,580 others took part in the TVEE Intermediate level examination.
TVEE Advanced Level on the other hand recorded 7,997 candidates in all accommodation centers nationwide.

Reports indicated that the exercise went from start to completion without hitches across the country.
On visiting some accommodation centers in Yaounde during the kick-off, Secondary Education Minister, Professor Nalova Lyonga voiced appreciation for the conduct of the exercise.
Minister Lyonga had hailed invigilators and candidates for the respect of measures put in place by the GCE Board to curb the spread of the COVID-19.

GCE A/O Level 2021 atmosphere in NW, SW
It is no news that the North West region currently faces security challenges owing to the ongoing armed conflict in the Anglophone regions of the country. However, authorities in secondary schools affirmed that the number of candidates who sat for the Ordinary Level exam varied between 14,000 to over 20,000 in the 50 examination centers in the region.
With these GCE statistics, an increase of 6000 candidates was observed this year for the total number sat in the region.
Tight security was put in place in the seven Divisions of the North West region and permitted the peaceful execution of the examination.

In the South West region, a similar serene atmosphere was noticed with thousands of candidates who sat for the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level. Besides the late arrival of some candidates and a few absentees, GCE 2021 examiners reported strict respect for rules and regulations.
A total of 30,141 candidates sat in for the June-July session of the GCE Ordinary Level, GCE Advanced Level in the South West region. At the TVE Intermediate Level and TVE Advanced Level 7146 candidates responded present for the exam.

GCE Results Grading system
The General Certificate of Education in Cameroon has a well established grading system which has been used for a very long time now. The system used at the Ordinary Level varies from that at the Advanced Level as presented below.
The GCE Ordinary – O Level makes use of the letters A, B, C, F and U for the grades. Grade A goes for the highest score and counts for 3 points. Grade B and C are passed grades too representing 2 and 1 points respectively. Grade F represents a failed score in the subject while U is used when the candidate’s score is an eliminator one. Usually, only the pass grades are presented on the GCE Results certificate which can be obtained a few months after publication of results.
The minimum number of passed subjects at the O Level is 6 papers and the minimum number of points is 6: 1 point (C grade) per subject. The maximum number of passed subjects is 10 papers and the maximum number of points is 33 (A Grade) per subject.

As earlier mentioned, the GCE Advanced – A Level has a grading system different from that used at the O Level. Here, the letters used are: A, B, C, D, E, F and O. Grade A goes for the highest score and counts for 5 points. Grade B, C, D and E are passed grades too representing 4,3, 2 and 1 points respectively. Grade F represents a failed score in the subject while O is used when the candidate’s score is an eliminator one. Usually, only the pass grades are presented on the GCE Results certificate which can be obtained a few months after publication of results.
The minimum number of passed subjects at the A Level is 2 papers and the minimum number of points is 2: 1 point (E grade) per subject. The maximum number of passed subjects is 5 papers and the maximum number of points is 25 (A Grade) per subject.
